1) Spend the day sending Valentines to the people you love and who have supported you through your divorce. Let them know how much they mean to you.
2) Do a good deed; it’ll warm your heart. Visit a women’s shelter and bring flowers and canned goods for the residents.
3) Stop by a nursing home or senior housing facility with candy and Valentines. Spend the afternoon listening to the elders share their memories of Valentine’s Days past.
4) Remember you can be your own Valentine! Send yourself flowers with a card that says, “Be Your Own Valentine! Love you!” Buy a big box of your favorite chocolates and indulge!
5) Wear red. Buy a red dress, red shoes, red lipstick and red earrings and paint the town -- you got it. . . red!
6) Make reservations at an upscale hotel for the evening. Order room service, have a massage, watch a great movie on TV and pamper yourself like crazy.
7) Organize an “Eat Desert First” party. Invite your single girlfriends to bring their favorite desserts, and serve them up with champagne and flowers.
8) Decorate your home or apartment with Valentine’s hearts, angels, red streamers, and cupids. Fill candy dishes with heart-shaped candies. It will help you get in the mood.
9) Perform a random act of kindness: Call, e-mail or mail a card to someone you haven’t talked to for a while. Reminisce about old times and share how you feel about them. Family, friends, co-workers, school buddies – anyone is fair game!
10) Don’t forget to laugh! Rent a funny movie like My Funny Valentine, read a funny book, share a funny story, and find some humor in your situation. After all, by this time next year, you may have found your “true” love: yourself.
